Wharfedale History

Britain has long been recognized throughout the world as being the home of loudspeaker technology in terms of innovation and quality.  This reputation has built up over many years by some of the world’s most famous loudspeaker manufacturers.  Wharfedale, established over seventy years ago has always been at the forefront of developing this reputation.

Technology

With an established experience in Research & Development, as a result of its freedom to design and vertically manufacture materials using advanced machineries and technology, as well as being RoHS and WEEE Certified, Wharfedale is now mainly focused in the development of its open-backed chassis design, curved cabinet construction, tweeter resolution, bi-directional KEVLAR weaves, tri-laminate cones, and neodymium magnets. By exploring the latest materials in technology, we were able to develop our products using new composite wood and aramid fibres. Using advanced cone materials to improve bandwidth and reduce distortion and a full spectrum of magnetic materials for numerous purposes.

Now, with more than 75 years of setting the standards in perfecting loudspeaker performance, the most advanced research and development program, and the most integrated and thorough manufacturing and quality control process in the industry, Wharfedale, in order to remain at the forefront of audio, has dedicated a 1.5 million square foot of manufacturing operation in which every single product and process takes place in-house.  This makes the design of any new loudspeaker an acoustic engineer’s dream.  Instead of having to use off-the-shelf components from a catalogue as most other purported ‘hi-fi’ companies choose to, we are able to build a complete vision – to engineer every single component from scratch to achieve a harmony in performance and balance.
